Creating Your Story in Miami

Your Story In Miami

I'd like to turn you on in becoming a local hero.

I know it sounds crazy, but when the protagonist gets a calling - it's supposed to sound crazy.

Acting on the calling is where the courage is...

Have you ever noticed a boom in superhero movies lately?

Almost every year, there's another and another. To the point where multiple ones come out within the same year - on the same storyline!

There's clearly a BIG demand in people with incredible abilities saving everyone from everything.

Well what about you?

Do you expect a superhero to just swoop in and save you from any shortcomings?

What if their superpowers are not fit for the job?

If I was stuck at a dead end job, I don't need Superman to come and save me.

I'd shrug, he'd shrug, roll the credits.

Instead, the need to look within and find our own abilities to assess our circumstance and make a change, then sharing the change with others in the same circumstances.

We all have this ability.

But how dull would the movie be if the protagonist got the abilities and gained resolve in an instant?

Every Movie Needs A Good Story

"Be the Hero of Your Own Movie" - Joe Rogan

Being a native in Miami, there are lots of talks about the past and the present...but not too often about the future.

If you see yourself playing a role in someone else's reality, the protagonist inside of you isn't going to step foot in the spotlight and create their own future.

You'll just be mulling around in the backdrop, and occasionally drop a cheesy line or two. Or maybe get blasted by the antagonist within the first 10 minutes of the movie.

That's why you must take full responsibility and OWN your story, dictate where that's going to take you in the unforeseen future.

Make sure there will always be a sequel.

Craft your story into the hero you're about to become.

And as mentioned before, with all the opportunity arising in Miami, there is always a place for you.

Miami is a City of the Future and there is so much that can be done. What will be your contribution?

I'd like to share with you some pointers about how to craft your story in Miami.

In hopes of making yourself an unstoppable hero that can be a champion of change here locally.

Getting Started On Your Story

Let's get back the calling...have you heard it yet?

Perhaps you are still waiting, good, it's time to get started until it calls.

Or did you leave the calling on hold because you're too busy?

Did you ghost it? Or left it on read?

"It’s not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me." - Bruce Wayne

Whatever the case may be, we all had and will have opportunities showing up in our lives.

You know it whenever you gain that rush of a vision of how great it would be, or would've been if you acted on it.

But something stopped you, or unmotivated you to pursue it.

The good news is: don't worry, this is totally normal.

The bad news is: superheroes aren't normal.

You've got to get started...you must initiate to the calling.

Let me show you this diagram that breaks down how common this story is for many.

Hero's Journey

This is called the Hero's Journey, a model of how most great superhero movies and stories are made.

This diagram and concept was introduced by Joseph Campbell in his book The Hero With A Thousand Faces.

This formula is the exact reason Star Wars became such a blockbuster!

(And the reason why you can see the similarities in all of them.)

This is a very relatable story for many people.

However, for most, once the unknown threshold gets crossed, they slump right back into the normal world.

The few that carry on get immeasurable personal gifts, or in this example, superpowers for their bravery.

"Fortune Favors The Bold"

Since we live in the real world, let's just say some of the superpowers we can gain here are: expertise, skills, the know-how, the knowledge, the love, the fortune etc....whatever you'd like to call it.

But keep in mind, these can only be granted by experience...

Level Up Locally

Back when I was a gamer I loved RPG's (Role Playing Games).

RPG Characters

Those were the types of games where you would choose a character and begin a developmental story with them.

You can choose to be a mysterious mage, or a courageous warrior, or a healer with humility.

Then you'd take those skillsets and focus on them to become...something greater.

You would play their role and had to LEVEL UP in order to overcome the bigger bosses or crawl the higher difficulty dungeons.

You'd get stronger and stronger with every challenge, and get new abilities as you go along.

This would help you carry on to the remainder of the game.

And the more difficult the challenge, the better the loot, the gear, the armor sets and the experience points.

But when you get started, you start at the local level.

You use what's readily available to you to initiate towards that growth.

You can't go straight to the dungeon at the end of the map without you figuring out a few things.

You'd bust right back to Gamestop and demand a refund.

You start off with rags and a stick, and head towards the gold plated armor and master staff.

That's why I recommend you look around and see where you are RIGHT NOW.

You are exactly where you need to be to get started.

We live in a world full of opportunities that you may even start taking sidequests to gain a little more experience before you head off into the main storyline.

But you have to act with intention, realize the role you've chosen, pivot and level up right here, right now.

Sidenote: you can also use other peoples "maps" to show you the ways.

Excellence Through Expertise

Expertise is what unlocks the powers within. There's a certain kind of Mastery involved.

If you look back at the Hero's Journey model, you can see that the pinnacle comes with a death and rebirth sequence.

I feel this is what occurs because a lesson, an event, or an experience that drew out the very best out of you.

A sacrifice you partake in order to find out who you really are outside of yourself.

Because that's where the next version of yourself really is.

"If You Strike Me Down, I Will Become More Powerful Than You Can Possibly Imagine" - Obi Wan Kenobi

It takes a whole lot to see what you're truly capable of.

According to the 40% rule, as mentioned by the book Living with a SEAL by Jesse Itzler, whenever you feel like you're done...you're really just 40% tired.

Your comfort is having a big say on when to throw in the towel.

Sometimes a complete wipe out will show you what you're capable of.

Perhaps a loss is required to find out what that other 60% is all about...

Share & Give

"With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility" - Uncle Ben

Once you've answered the calling, once you've leveled up, and you've gotten in touch with your full capacity.

Show others.

Show them to heed the call and take action.

Assist in as many people as possible to be a part of your legacy, and the legacy of many others before you to carry on the tasks at hand.

Mentorship, coaching, friendship, motivation, inspiration and any other way to keep the momentum going.

The cycle closes with another person getting the call and receiving your torch to light the world on fire with it.
